We live in a world that glorifies hustle.
Work harder. Sleep less. Prove your worth.
The noise around us screams that rest is weakness and stillness is laziness. But deep down, don’t we all feel the weight of that endless striving? The kind of tiredness that no nap can fix, because it’s not just the body—it’s the soul that’s worn out.
But here’s the truth: Even God rested.
After six days of creating the heavens and the earth, God paused. Not because He was tired, but to show us the rhythm of life He intended for us to follow. A life not just of doing, but of being. A life where rest is not a reward we earn after burnout, but a gift we receive so we don’t burn out in the first place.
Rest is not idleness. It is obedience.
It’s trusting that the world will keep spinning even when we step away. It’s recognizing that our worth isn’t tied to our performance. It’s saying, “God, I believe You’re working even when I’m not.”
But rest doesn’t mean abandoning our responsibilities either.
Work is holy too.
God placed Adam in the garden to tend and keep it. We are called to labor with excellence, to steward what’s been given to us, to plant, to build, to serve. But not at the cost of our peace. Not while our hearts are crumbling under the pressure to be perfect.
Balance isn’t about splitting our time equally. It’s about knowing what season we’re in.
There’s a time to run and a time to breathe.
A time to pour out and a time to be filled.
A time to show up and a time to slow down.
So today, check in with yourself:
Are you running on empty while trying to fill everyone else’s cup?
Are you mistaking productivity for purpose?
Let rest be part of your worship.
Take that walk without your phone. Read that book without guilt. Sit in silence. Talk to God, not about your to-do list, but just to be with Him.
You don’t need to earn rest. You just need to accept it.
